Revealed: Sundowns Path To The CL, Familiar Foe Ahead?
Mamelodi Sundowns yesterday found out who they will be facing in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals, but also who they’ll potentially have to beat to win the tournament.
Masandawana were handed a tough draw as they were pitted against Africa’s most successful side, Al Ahly, in the last eight of the competition, with the first leg being played at home on April 5 or 6.
If Sundowns are able to make it past Ahly when the second leg takes place on April 12 or 13, then they now know that they will take on either Horoya – who knocked out Orlando Pirates – or a familiar foe for Pitso Mosimane, Wydad Casablanca, in the semis.
The final of the tournament, over two legs, is currently set for May 24/25 and May 31/June 1, where the winner of Sundowns’ bracket will tackle CS Constantinois, Esperance de Tunis, Simba SC or TP Mazembe for the greatest prize in African football.
Sundowns, winners of the tournament in 2016, will have to beat other previous winners if they’re to go all the way, but who would you rather them face in the semifinals next month?
