How Downs Defender Overcame Heart Condition

Loaned out Mamelodi Sundowns defender Harold Majadibodu has opened up about how he was able to come back stronger after overcoming a heart condition he had last year.

Currently on loan to University of Pretoria, the talented right back disclosed that he was diagnosed with myocarditis last year and did not form part of Sundowns’ squad that went into the bio-bubble to complete the 2019/20 season.

He was able to fully recover and went on to make his official senior team debut for Sundowns in January this year against Bloemfontein Celtic. He also played against Swallows, before he was sent out on loan to Tuks for the second half of last season. He is back at Tuks this season for another loan spell in the GladAfrica Championship.

“I had a very serious heart problem. Up to this day, we have not disclosed that. Last year July I tested positive for COVID and when I returned to Sundowns, I did the medical tests and I was diagnosed with Myocarditis, which is the inflammation of the heart muscle. Because of that, I had to go through a procedure in August last year. I went through an operation to deal with the problem and I was out for a few months,” the 26-year-old told the Siya crew.

“I could not run. I could not exercise. I just had to sit and do nothing. I only started training in January this year and I was stlll at Sundowns. I trained hard and played those two games for Sundowns against Swallows and Celtic. After those games, I had a meeting with coach Manqoba and I think him for his honesty. He told me straight that he did not want me to sit in the bench or the stands, so he said it was best for me that I should go somewhere where I will get game-time. The reason I returned in January is because I was cleared to play again. At this point I have not had any problems. I have been feeling healthy, but all parties have been aware of the situation I was in.”
