After opening his scoring account for Mamelodi Sundowns, Grant Kekana has stressed the importance of converting chances as defenders, whenever set piece opportunities are presented.
Kekana opened the scoring from a set piece as Sundowns beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 on Sunday and is hoping to contribute with more goals for the reigning DStv Premiership champions. The former SuperSport United player looks set to start when Sundowns host TS Galaxy at Loftus Stadium on Sunday.
"As defenders, we don't get that many opportunities to score, so whenever you get given the chance, you need to try as much as possible to be in the box and in the mix, especially during set pieces," Kekana told the Sundowns media department, as he looked ahead to this weekend's clash against the Rockets.
"We are going to go in pretty confident. I think we did well against Kaizer Chiefs. We obviously weren't happy with the amount of chances we gave them and the amount of chances we did not take. So we are looking to rectify that going into the TS Galaxy game and hopefully convert our chances.
"TS Galaxy is a hard working team. We know that they are going to go all out. Even in Owen da Gama, they have a good coach, but at the end of the day our quality will speak for itself. We just need to go into the game and apply ourselves well and hopefully get a positive result. It will be a very physical game, but they also have to adapt to our style of play."
