High-level sources close to Mamelodi Sundowns have revealed that a deal for South American player Erwin Mario Saavedro Flores is not over the line just yet, but an agreement is imminent.
With Sundowns’ foreign spots filled, sources have indicated that the club could register certain players as South Africans to free up foreign spots. The Siya crew has previously reported on the five players registered as foreigners in the Sundowns squad.
Divine Lunga (Zimbabwe), Gaston Sirino (Uruguay), Peter Shalulile (Namibia), Pavol Safranko (Slovakia) and Ricardo Nascimento (Brazil), have all been registered as the five foreign players, while Brian Onyango (Kenya) is registered as a South African.
The Siya crew has it on good authority that an approach has been made for the 25-year-old Saavedro Flores, and the final steps are in place to wrap up the potential move before the close of the January transfer window in under two weeks. An announcement is expected soon, with Sundowns looking to complete their second signing of the window, after bringing in Surprise Ralani from Cape Town City.
The right winger, who plays for well known club Bolivar, is currently with the Bolivian national team and have a match against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday, January 21 and another clash against Venezuela on January 29.
The deal could be done by the close of the window, but the player is likely to only arrive in early February, unless he is released early from the national team camp to join up with his new teammates.
