According to Siya sources, Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to extend the stay of one of their centre-backs.
As reported in issue number 1180 of Soccer Laduma, Sundowns have entered into contract talks with Ricardo Nascimento, looking to secure his signature on an extended deal despite 12 months left on his current contract.
The Brazilians centre-back’s contract was frozen at the beginning of the season after a hip injury meant he’d be sidelined for several months, though in January this year Sundowns were able to re-register the 33-year-old following a successful recovery.
According to Siya sources, Nascimento is currently on a continuation of his previous contract which is set to come to an end on June 30, 2021, though it is understood that Sundowns want to tie him down beyond the 2020/21 season, where he’d likely put pen to paper on the last big-money deal of his professional career.
Nascimento has established himself as a fine defender in Mzansi’s top-flight over the years, however, with the player on the wrong side of 30, the centre-back’s game-time would eventually be managed come the new season, as Sundowns eye new additions to add cover in that department.
Now, with the 2019/20 season expected to resume any time soon, it remains to be seen whether the Brazilians will be able to agree terms with Nascimento for a new deal in the coming weeks.
