Peter Shalulile is set for a few more days on the sidelines following co-coach Manqoba Mnqgithi’s update on the Mamelodi Sundowns striker.
The Namibian was a surprise omission in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday, though it appears the injury isn’t too serious.
“Shalulile only had a grade one strain on his ankle, he should be ready – possibly – after Golden Arrows,” Mngqithi told the media after the match.
He is Downs’ joint top scorer in the league alongside Themba Zwane with nine goals, and his overall contribution since signing from now-defunct Highlands Park late last year has been extremely hard to miss.
Shalulile has scored a total of 16 goals in 31 games for the Brazilians, helping keep their hopes of retaining the league title alive and being key in their CAF Champions League campaign, where Sundowns have reached the quarterfinals.
As explained by Mngqithi, he is now expected to miss the Arrows clash on Wednesday afternoon but then should be available to face Orlando Pirates again on May 2, just two weeks after Downs thrashed the Buccaneers 4-1 in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals.
Do you remember any of these strange signings Downs made?
