With Mamelodi Sundowns set to boost their squad for next season, the club has identified where one of the possible new recruits would fit in.
The Siya crew has established that Golden Arrows defender Divine Lunga is a top target for Masandawana and the player, according to information received, is keen on making a move to Gauteng following three successful years in KZN with Abafana Bes’thende.
Lunga is comfortable on the ball and this is the type of player who would fit in at Sundowns, where defenders are able to build from the ball and do not just hoof the ball forward in hope that it will find a teammate.
Lunga is a left back who is able to get forward and whip in crosses, but Sundowns see him developing more as a left-sided centre back going forward and a future replacement for Brazilian defender Ricardo Nascimento. The 25-year-old Lunga has the height, the ability to play short and long passes and is calm in possession of the ball.
Left-sided centre backs are a rare breed and Lunga looks set to be developed into playing in that role. Sundowns like to have the balance of playing with a left-sided centre back, which is key to their system.
