As Mamelodi Sundowns look to finalise a deal for yet another South American player, Soccer Laduma looks back at players the club has signed from the continent.
Sundowns are on the verge of completing a deal for Bolivian winger Erwin Mario Saavedro Flores and the player looks set to join a list of nine players who have joined the club from South America, coming from countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia and Uruguay. Saavedro Flores, if signed by the DStv Premiership defending champions, would be the first player from Bolivia to don the famous blue and yellow colours of Sundowns.
The last five South American players - Gaston Sirino, Ricardo Nascimento, Jose Ali Meza, Emiliano Tade and Leonardo Castro, were signed under the leadership of former coach Pitso Mosimane, who has even tried to lure Sirino to his Egyptian club Al Ahly, without any luck.
Now the Sundowns technical team led by Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena are heading closer to have their first South American signing on board before the close of the January transfer window in under two weeks.
