Stars Of Africa academy boss, Farouk Khan believes that Pitso Mosimane deserves to be rewarded accordingly for all he has accomplished at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 55-year-old head coach will see his current contract with the Brazilians expire on June 30 this year and while the football fraternity is aware of the ongoing talks for a new deal, Mosimane is yet to put pen to paper on the dotted line.
However, the head coach confirmed to the media last month that he is the one waiting on Sundowns to come with a decision after he already complied with his end of the negotiations.
But how is the football fraternity reacting to the situation? Here’s more on what Khan had to say about the saga.
“He has lived up to his mandate of what he has achieved, the club has to consider that. If they lose somebody like him what would it cost to replace him because for a long time they’ve brought coaches from everywhere, coaches from Europe and they didn’t have the same success that he has,” Khan said.
“So sometimes, give him the same recognition and reward that you would have given to a foreign coach. Had a foreign coach achieved the same success as Pitso, would the club have considered giving them better contracts? I’m sure they would. So I think what he has championed is - the fact that, give South African coaches the same remuneration that you would give a foreign coach and I think that is something that still has to take place because a lot of times we give more credit and respect to a foreign tactician than we would a local coach.
“But if he is asking for sums of money which the club feels is unreasonable then I suppose it is to be debated about, sometimes it is also a case of – where are not going to give in to your demands because what will be your demands be a year down the line? So these are all negotiation aspects which I suppose both parties are finding difficult to come to, but I think based on his performances he is entitled to ask for a more attractive contract than what he is on currently, we don’t know what it is but I am sure he feels that he has done extremely well and he should be awarded accordingly,” he added.
