Pitso Mosimane and the issue of his contract at Mamelodi Sundowns is one of the major talking points in the local football fraternity at the moment, as the coach’s deal will soon be coming to an end, as things stand.
Having led Sundowns to so much success in the last seven years, including winning the CAF Champions League, Jingles has been yet to sign on the dotted lines at the Chloorkop outfit, though the signs are that all is well between the former Bafana Bafana mentor and the defending league champions.
While it remains unclear as to why is taken the club this long to make a decision, since the coach confirmed himself that he had been waiting on them, former Sundowns goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo has weighed in on the matter.
“Look, I don’t know what the real issue is there but whenever I have seen in the media it sounded as if Pitso says Sundowns know what he wants. Sundowns on the other hand haven’t made any statements concerning that. I don’t know who is Pitso talking to. It’s very difficult for me to sit here and assume what is happening inside there or behind the doors,” Kanalelo told the Siya crew.
Mosimane and Downs had been working on catching up with Kaizer Chiefs at the top of the log, having closed the gap to only four points and with a game in hand, by the time of the PSL break due to Coronavirus.
“I’m just surprised! Obviously knowing that his contract is coming to an end soon, and since he has been successful with Sundowns, what is the hold up? I would expect a club like Sundowns by now to have tied him down to a new contract so that he doesn’t have to deal with a lot of unnecessary stuff. The coach has to make plans. You don’t start making plans at the last moments. As a coach you want to be comfortable in time so that you can start signing players for next season and give your plan to the club. If you leave it too late, that’s a recipe for disaster,” the Namibian legend added.
