Mamelodi Sundowns have claimed their fourth league title in fifth seasons after thrashing Tshwane rivals SuperSport United on Wednesday evening.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start as they were reduced to ten men with seven minutes gone when Guily Manziba was sent off for a reckless studs-up challenge on Siphelele Mkhulise.

The champions-elect broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute. Sirino played Modiba in down the left who squared the ball back into the box for Lebohang Maboe to produce a simple finish from close-range in the centre of the goal.

The Brazilians doubled their lead to deliver a hammer blow to Matsatsantsa shortly before the interval. Aubrey Modiba whipped one in from the right-hand side with that magical left foot and it went all the way past Erasmus as well as Ronwen Williams as the ball sneaked into the far corner.

The Brazilians were on fire and appeared to have put the game to bed just two minutes with the first-half not even done. Modiba did superbly down the right-hand side to beat his marker and got to the byline before squaring for Themba Zwane, who fired home his 10th league goal of the season.

Sundowns won a penalty in the 53rd minute when Keenan Phillips handballed Modiba's cross. Zwane stepped up but fired a tame effort to Williams' right and the Matsatsantsa shot-stopper got two hands to it to palm the ball away from danger.

Six minutes later, Zwane had another golden opportunity when Thapelo Morena cut the ball back into the box for the arriving Zwane, who fired wide of the left-hand post on his left foot.

Matsatsantsa scored a stunning consolation goal five minutes from time when Teboho Mokoena controlled the ball just inside the box and let it bounce before firing a sumptuous volley on the outside of his foot into the top right-hand corner.

Onyango made a brilliant save to keep the scores at 3-1 showing the quickest of reactions to get down smartly to his left before getting himself up quickly to thwart the effort at the feet of the SuperSport attackers who were waiting to pounce.

Onyango was then forced off with a finger injury in the closing stages as his namesake Brian Onyango put on the gloves but it was too late as Sundowns won the league at a canter in the end.
