Mamelodi Sundowns moved five points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership table after a comfortable 2-0 win over Chippa United on Sunday afternoon.
The Brazilians made five changes from their last-gasp win over Black Leopards, as they were bolstered by the return of Ricardo Nascimento and Lyle Lakay while Andile Jali, Gaston Sirino and Sphelele Mkhulise were all recalled.
The hosts were patient on the ball, looking to bypass the Chippa press and Lebogang Maboe eventually broke the deadlock for Sundowns in the 23rd minute with a looping header from Peter Shalulile's cross.
Themba Zwane should have added a second goal for Sundowns on the half-hour mark after receiving a cut-back from Maboe in the centre of the six-yard box but he struck his shot straight at shot-stopper Ayanda Mtshali.
Kermit Erasmus had a wonderful chance to double the lead for Masandawana ten minutes before the break after going through on goal at the near post but his chip over Mtshali sailed slightly over the bar.
The second goal arrived seven minutes before the break with a side-footed shot from Gaston Sirino that found the bottom corner after a cut-back by Shalulile for his first league goal of the season.
With Sundowns continuing to dominate in the second half, Zwane squandered a big chance in the 64th minute after a cut-back found him unmarked inside the six-yard box but his shot hit the arm of one of the Chippa players, with the referee waving away the appel.
Mosa Lebusa thought he made it 3-0 for Sundowns in the last quarter of an hour with a thumping half-volley inside the box after a through ball by Gift Motupa but the goal was disallowed for offside, belatedly, long after the celebrations.
The Chilli Boys were not threatening to get back into the game in the closing minutes, with Sundowns taking the pace out of the game and Motupa missed a sitter in added time as the Brazilians comfortably clinched a 2-0 win that extended their lead at the top of the log to five points.
