Sundowns rested the likes Themba Zwane, Rivaldo Coetzee and Lyle Lakay ahead of the CAF Champions League tie on Sunday, which saw Gaston Sirino, Haashim Domingo, Aubrey Modiba and Sibusiso Vilakazi handed starts.

The Brazilians were unsettled at the back in the opening exchanges, with a back-line that was also missing Rushine De Reuck and Grant Kekana, as Arrows put them under pressure. eerly on.

Pule Mmodi had a chance to break the deadlock for the hosts in the 20th minute after getting behind Modiba to go through inside the box but his low strike across goal sailed just wide of the mark.

Despite Sundowns enjoying most of the possession, Nqobeko Dlamini had a big chance for Lehlohonolo Seema's charges two minutes later with a free header inside the box that went wide from Mthokozisi Dube's cross.

Sundowns, meanwhile had nothing to show for the first-half dominance as Arrows shot-stopper Maximilian Mbaeva was largely untested in the opening 45 minutes.

The Brazilians were different side coming from the break, forcing matters high up the pitch although clear-cut chances were hard to come by early on.

However, Sirino broke the deadlock for the visitors just before the hour-mark with a first-time low strike on the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.

Abafana Bes'thende upped their tempo after that and were given a lifeline in the last 14 minutes after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Siyabonga Khumalo by Khuliso Mudau inside the box, but Michael Gumede fired his spot-kick wide of the upright.

Domingo almost sealed the deal in the dying minutes with looping strike that missed the top corner but Sirino's goal did enough to restore their four-point lead at the top and secure their seventh clean sheet after the campaign.
