It’s unusual to see two rival clubs, especially ones from rival cities, conclude as many deals as Mamelodi Sundowns have with SuperSport United.
The Siya crew has gone down memory lane and found 16 notable deals between the two Tshwane outfits – from that back and forth with Lerato ‘All You Need Is Love’ Chabangu to George Lebese, who is now looking for a club in Mzansi after he was unable to return to the USA due to Covid travelling restrictions.
In some of the movements, players have left Downs to revive their careers with their crosstown rivals, while others continued to struggle.
The latest player to make the switch from Chloorkop to Matsatsantsa is Lucky Mohomi, who joined SuperSport at the start of the season following a frustrating four years at Sundowns without really establishing himself as a regular.
And the jury is still out on whether the midfielder has made the desired impact since being part of coach Kaitano Tembo’s squad.
Lebese was another deal that made headlines, but in the end SuperSport did not exercise their option to buy the player outright, forcing him to return to Downs, though he subsequently asked for his contract to be terminated.
