Mamelodi Sundowns have parted company with one of the club’s key figures and now have to go into the market to look for a replacement.
Ricardo Nascimento has spent the last two months back in his native country Brazil doing rehabilitation from an injury he suffered at the end of the previous season – and according to Siya sources he will not be returning!
The 34-year-old joined Sundowns six years ago and has been part of the core team, winning four league titles in that period, three of them under then coach Pitso Mosimane and the other with co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena at the helm.
It’s not the first time Nascimento has had to do his recovery in Brazil after he spent some time back in his country of birth in 2019 because of a hip injury.
His was not registered as part of the squad then, but did return to Chloorkop when he was fully fit again, although this time Siya sources have informed the crew his contract will be terminated by mutual consent.
This forces Downs to look for a replacement, Siya sources have insisted, and it now remains to be seen which player the technical team will identify as a possible new arrival.
