Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane wants to go beyond the SADC region for pre-season as the Brazilians plan to conquer Africa again ahead of the 2019/20 season, which will kick-off in August.
It’s the first time in five years that Downs will not be in action during this period – thanks to CAF aligning its calendar with that of the SA domestic league.
Mosimane told journalist recently that he has already completed his plans for the off-season and has north Africa in mind.
“I have planned our pre-season according to what we will face in the group (Champions League) – and I can tell you now who we are going to face,” Mosimane said.
“I am going to have one or two north Africans because if you check who is winning the league in other countries like Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria, one will be in our group. So at this point in time, we should be the big boys in the group because we finished in the last four.”
Downs were eliminated by Wydad Casablanca in the semi-finals and could not repeat their 2016 triumph.
“We are the also going to have one west African team in Nigeria or Ghana. I know I will have one SADC and east Africa. So my pre-season will probably be to play two teams in north Africa, then I want to go to TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi and the last one maybe can be in Zimbabwe, Zambia or Angola in the last 14 days of the programme and then fishing here at home with one local game.”
Mosimane, however, did not give specific dates.
