Confirmed: Downs Release Another Player

Mamelodi Sundowns have set free another player, bringing to seven the number of stars offloaded by the Brazilians this year.

The Siya crew has had it confirmed that Katlego Otladisa, the young player who showed immense potential more than two years ago when he was signed by the reigning DStv Premiership champions, has parted ways with the club.

Otladisa joined Downs from the now-defunct Platinum Stars with much fanfare, but he was never able to make an official appearance for them.

“It is for the better. He is 24-years-old and he should be playing. All 40 players at Sundowns are established internationals on big packages and must be playing,” Eddie Pienaar, who represents Otladisa, told the Siya crew.

The junior international had initially been loaned back to Stars in January 2018 and then continued there following their relocation to Cape Town as the newly formed Cape Umoya United – but a division below the Premiership.

Otladisa spent the previous season at Ajax Cape Town and was an integral part of their squad as they fought for promotion from the GladAfrica Championship, though they were beaten to the top spot by Swallows FC.

“We don’t have a lot of pacey wingers in SA and with his quality, so it was always strange that he didn't play at Sundowns,” added Pienaar.

“But I would like to thank Mr Yogesh Singh (legal manager and senior official) for the professionalism and clearing Katlego.”

Otladisa is now free to join a club of his choice and is not limited by the fact that the transfer window in the PSL closed on Monday.
