Downs Identify Baroka Dangermen

Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rulani Mokwena has identified the Baroka FC danger men who could upset them if not watched closely.

Fresh from qualifying for the CAF Champions League group stages earlier this week, log leaders Sundowns are back in domestic action and have a tricky clash against a Baroka side capable of claiming all three points.

The clubs meet in the DSTV Premiership in Polokwane on Saturday, January 09, with Sundowns looking to stay at the top of the standings. The defending champions are currently top of the table on goal difference.

“We’ve gone extensively into Baroka. Their last match, which was on Tuesday against TS Galaxy, had a lot of changes – about eight changes in the starting line-up as compared to the line-ups in the last couple of matches where they were quite consistent. But we went back into their last three matches against TS Galaxy, Chippa and against Pirates. The games against Pirates and Chippa already inform you more or less the probably once they have a full-strength squad available, and you know more or less profiling the individuals who should be within in the team, Mokwena told the media.

“But they’ve got very clear game forms in attack. They have good possibilities to develop the play in front of the defensive line. They have good possibilities with the speed of (Thami) Masiya to develop the game and gain final third entries behind the defensive line. They’ve also got good possibilities with (Evidence) Makgopa in terms of giving the team a focal point. It’s a strong team that also defend well. (There is the) Very experienced (Elvis) Chipezeze in goals. He has clear profile of how he wants to build from the back. There’s (Vusi) Sibiya, (Mfanafuthi) Shozi and they also have Denwin Farmer as an option at left back. (Goodman) Masele is strong in the midfield. (Manuel) Kambala is strong. We will what they put out and we have prepared. We’ve had two training sessions to prepare for that match and hopefully we put the work done during the week onto the pitch. It’s going to be a difficult one. The threat of set pieces is also one that we are away of.”
