Pitso’s Camp Blasts Downs After Insults

Pitso Mosimane’s representatives, irked by Mamelodi Sundowns’ public apology issued on Sunday, have now also hit back.

A section of Downs supporters blocked off the Al Ahly team bus on its way to the Lucas Moripe Stadium for Mosimane’s homecoming ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal cup tie at the weekend.

They carried placards of vile insults aimed at the coach, who later revealed during a post-match press conference that “these people were swearing at my mother”.

Mosimane said he knew who the culprit was, but did not mention any names.

Less than 24-hours later, his former employers Sundowns issued a statement expressing regret at the behaviour of some of their loyal fans – but what was clearly omitted was an apology directed at the victim of the abuse.

“As MT Sports Marketing and Management, our stance is that we will not allow for such callous bullying of our client,” read a statement from Mosimane’s representatives, an agency headed by his wife Moira Tlhagale.

“To this effect, as the Management company of coach Pitso, we are disappointed that Mamelodi Sundowns FC has not apologised to him personally but issued a general statement apologising to Al Ahly “and those associated with the team”. This is not good enough. The insults were directed at coach Pitso in his personal capacity and to his mother. We hope that the entire Sundowns family will continue to look at the success of coach Pitso as something to celebrate, not vilify.”

In the same statement, MT Sport also insist that the attack on Mosimane was not “an isolated” event and claim “there were many known examples of disruption and efforts to usurp his position within the club” during his near eight year spell at Chloorkop.
