Mamelodi Sundowns’ goalkeeper, Denis Onyango kept a third clean sheet during midweek DStv Premiership action and is eager to add many more to his name this season.
The Brazilians, who are currently unbeaten in the league campaign, have not conceded a goal since the 2020/21 edition kicked off in October and are currently sitting top of the log so far.
Speaking to Sundowns’ media after a 2-0 win over Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday, Onyango explained that while he takes the glory for the clean sheet, the overall team performance plays a big role in how he keeps it safe at the back.
“It’s important for me, the goalkeepers in the team to have as many clean sheets as possible because it helps the team with momentum and it gives confidence to the team going forward knowing at the back, it’s safe.
"But most importantly it is defence and the guys also who defend from the top, it makes it easy for me to have a lot of clean sheets so for me it is very important to keep shooting and keep making noise for them to do the job but at the end of the day, it is about the team to get more clean sheets. If I can get 10 clean sheets in a row it will be fantastic but one game at a time,” the 35-year-old said.
