Pitso Mosimane has confirmed – and explained – the news the Siya crew broke this morning that Cavin Johnson will join him at Al Ahly.
In a statement on his official Twitter account, the recently appointed coach by the Egyptian giants last week speaks highly of his SA colleague Johnson, who will form part of his technical team in Cairo immediately.
“Coach Cavin is an experienced and accomplished mentor, who has played an integral part in the development of football in South Africa and beyond,” Mosimane said.
“With qualifications that include the CAF license, SAFA Pro license, Brazilians Football Academy, FA England courses and a sports management diploma, he has what it takes to help us deliver on our mandate in this top league and beyond.”
The now former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor had initially handpicked three of his Chloorkop backroom staff to join him on his new project in Egypt – his assistant Rulani Mokwena, fitness trainer Kabelo Rangoaga and performance analyst Musi Matlaba.
But Mokwena snubbed the offer, opting to remain at Sundowns, where he has since been appointed joint coaches with Manqoba Mnqgithi.
Johnson said: “It’s an honour to be joining one of the most successful coaches in South Africa to coach the most successful club in Africa. I just want to thank coach Pitso for giving me this opportunity to work with this club of the century.”
