CAF Champions League

Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 4-0 Otoho d'Oyo (5-2 on agg.)

Date: 24 August 2019

Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium

Mamelodi Sundowns advanced to the next round of CAF Champions League qualifiers after thrashing  Otoho d'Oyo 4-0 in the second leg of their preliminary round tie.

Andile Jali earned his first start of the season in place of captain Hlompho Kekana while Lyle Lakay dropped to the bench with Tebogo Langerman returning.

Sundowns, who needed to overturn a first-leg defeat found a big chance on 10 minutes, but Langerman hit the post from a gaping goal. Three minutes later, Sundowns were handed a penalty later following a foul on Lebohang Maboe. Uruguayan Gaston Sirino calmly converted for his first of the season.

Injury forced Sundowns to a change as early as the 19th minute, as Anele Ngcongca came on for Thapelo Morena.

Masandawana doubled their advantage on 25 minutes after Mosa Lebusa helped Sibusiso Vilakazi’s cut back over the goal-line.

The onslaught continued as Sirino completed his brace with an audacious top curler after 34 minutes following a through ball, putting Sundowns in cruise mode, before Themba Zwane joined the act four minutes later with a simple finish from Vilakazi’s cut-back inside the area.

The visitors were out of their depth in the second half, with a goal-line clearance denying Zwane a second on 49 minutes following good work through the middle.

Sirino weren’t letting down as the South American rattled the crossbar on 66 minutes with a shot from afar.

Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane threw his last dice of the bench 77 minutes in, with Sphelele Mkhulise and Emiliano Tade coming on.

Sundowns controlled the match in the final stages of the half to come home with a clean sheet and a 5-2 aggregate victory.
