Mamelodi Sundowns

Brockie Speaks Ahead Of Downs Deadline

Ahead of Sunday’s deadline, when Jeremy Brockie will finally know what decision Mamelodi Sundowns have taken on his future, the striker has opened up about what he feels it would take to get his career back on track.

The 32-year old was sent out on loan to Maritzburg United earlier on this season having struggled to break into coach Pitso Mosimane’s starting line-up, and a move away was more than welcomed by the player.

But as with all loanees, Brockie must report back to Chloorkop at the end of the campaign, unless Sundowns decide on May 31 that he is surplus to requirements and should look for a fresh start elsewhere.

If there’s no word from his parent club this weekend, Brockie is a free agent.

What does the ‘Sniper’ think?

“The most important thing to me right now is to get back to playing football. I know I have a lot of good football left in me and I’m not ready to stop playing yet. Right now it’s in Sundowns’ hands whether or not that will be with them, or somewhere else,” he told the Siya crew.

In this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, it was reported that his old club SuperSport United have already shown an interest in having their goal machine back – the New Zealand born forward managed over 40 goals in more than a 100 matches there.

Much like they tirelessly pursued Brockie to lure him from their crosstown rivals two years ago, Mosimane has already gone public with his intentions to sign another striker to compete with Mauricio Affonso upfront.

Where does that leave Brockie, and is there any chance he would stay at Maritzburg if given the option for a fresh start?

“I think the best teams are always trying to strengthen their team. If I do end up back at Sundowns, I’m ready for that challenge,” he said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here in PMB. I’m not sure what their plans are or if I’m in those plans. Come June 1, I’ll be open to considering all offers, here in SA and abroad.”
