Mamelodi Sundowns could go all the way to surpass Orlando Pirates at the top of the Absa Premiership log, according to one of the Chloorkop club’s former players.
The Brazilians will resume their catch up in the league tonight with a clash against SuperSport United in the Tshwane derby at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
A win against Matsatsantsa will take the Brazilians to 47 points, and only three points behind Pirates, who are on 50 points and at the top of the table.
Downs still have two games in hand after tonight’s match and former Sundowns striker, Alton Meiring, has lauded the team’s head coach Pitso Mosimane for the club's progress.
“Sundowns are strong and they have very good players. They have a very arrogant coach. You know, in modern day football you need to be very arrogant. With his arrogance, he puts himself on the spotlight and his team performs well. That’s the most important thing – getting the results,” said Meiring.
The next two matches for Downs after the Matsatsantsa clash will be against Baroka FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, and against Chippa United at Loftus next Tuesday, before they switch focus to the CAF Champions League again for the semi-finals of the continental competition.
“Against Al Ahly, we all saw what Sundowns can do. I think Sundowns (will win against SuperSport), they are on top now,” added Meiring.
What do you think of Meiring's comments about Mosimane, do you agree with him?
