The Premier Soccer League recently confirmed that they have written to Pitso Mosimane regarding comments about match officials and Soccer Laduma takes a look at three occasions where the head coach complained about the referees.
Mosimane has not held back in revealing that he thinks Kaizer Chiefs are ‘benefiting’ from match officials, however, his comments has since landed him in hot water with the PSL.
However, what was it exactly that Mosimane has said that warranted a letter from the league? Here are three of the occasions where the Mamelodi Sundowns head coach did not hold back on voicing his opinions about the match officials and Chiefs.
Ahead of Sundowns’ league clash against Chiefs….
"We will pray for match officials"
“Benni was crying, I am crying and AmaZulu were complaining, Steve Komphela was complaining and even Owen (da Gama) was complaining. Who doesn’t complain? It’s a joy ride.
“We will pray for the officials not to make mistakes that they have been making,” he told the media.
After losing 2-0 to Chiefs...
“I want to see if referees will make mistakes against Pirates”
“We have to admit that they are a lot stronger this year and the influence of the coach helps because he wants to win. But Chiefs didn’t have the help from referees who make mistakes last year – it’s a fact. But is this a spiral or what? When is it going to end? This thing must stop. I want to see if referees will make mistakes against Pirates,” he told the media.
“Something has to give in now. I don’t think Pirates supporters will allow it. You can’t win every game by referee’s mistakes. It’s enough. We have seen it before, but now it’s a series. Is this a football match or what? Excuse me,” he added.
Again after 2-0 loss to Chiefs…
"But when they [Chiefs] benefit, I will say it, they are benefitting from referees' mistakes. I don't know if we're back to the 80's [1980's] but all I'm saying is Chiefs are benefitting from referees'mistakes. Even if it doesn't look that much of an offside or what, when it's Kaizer Chiefs buckle up!” he told the media.
