Mamelodi Sundowns have an impressive list of players who regularly get called up to their national teams, but none of them will be going to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations!
There’s a list of 15 (see gallery above) that were involved in the qualifiers for the continental showpiece over the past year and were hopeful of travelling to Cameroon with their respective countries when the final rounds of matches were approaching.
Surprisingly, none of them, the bulk coming from Bafana Bafana, are going!
Denis Onyango is a notable figure on that list.
The goalkeeper would have probably been eager to make his bow for Uganda at the tournament having been part of the squad in Egypt nearly two years ago.
However, Uganda finished third in their group behind Burkina Faso and Malawi over the weekend losing narrowly to The Flames, who have made history by qualifying for their very first ever AFCON.
As for Bafana, that story is now well-documented following their shock 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Sunday when all they needed was a draw.
Does it come as a shock that no Downs player will be at the AFCON?
