Soccer-Laduma Edition 807

GI is the man who can take our team far and he deserves the credit. He is the 1 who thought of combining Furman with Yeye in the game against Mali and it worked fantastic. He is not the 1 to be blamed for our landslide defeat, nor players, it was just the end of our part in the tournament. GI should continue coaching Bafana. Changing the coach will just ruin the foundation of our National team and tear what has been knitted by GI.
Noko Siviwe @ Tulbagh

He comes and conquered! Raphael Varane tackled with precision, scored and stealth. And with his height, his physicality and his ability to read the plays, he reminded the Santiago Bernabeu faithful last great central defender, Fernando Hierro. His best is surely yet to come, for this 19yrs Frenchman is on a learning curve at this rarified level of soccer. Yet to bestride the field on which Messi and CR7 were present to score while they did not and to look so accomplished in such company, this surely heralds an exciting career in the making. Varane was calmness personified in a makeshift Madrid defense, had stepped forward in absence of club stars. it becomes easy to understand why Real would blood a teenager in a match of this intensity. I am told his parents had roots in Martinique, the Caribbean island that Thierry Henry's family also hailed from - Zidane had already likened him to France's most thoughtful defender, Laurent Blanc, Zidane would not make such comparison lightly. Wandile Mtana

Irrespective of Bafana losing to Mali on penalties, thus crushing out?iam proud of their performance.there is still a lot of work to be done, but i believe and plead with safa to keep GI for continuity's sake.with Gordon in charge we stand a better chance of making it to Brazil 2014 n participate in 2015 afcon finals..

I think the minnows of African football are giving the so called powerhouses a run for their money. 1st the defending champions were knocked in the group stages, 2ndly the host lost in quarterfinals along with the favorites(Ivory Coast). I foresee Burkina Faso being crowned African champions & surprising everyone. Ngoako Phooko Ngwanallela

If there is one thing exceptional about Gordon Igesund is his media skills.  Following Bafana’s bombing out of the Afcon on home soil.  Gordon has been very quick to loud serious praise on his side’s performance.  He has also wasted time to make veiled excuses about lack time with the team (30 days to be exact).  Here are the cold facts, the SA team he took over had already claimed scalps of sides like Ghana, Egypt, Burkina Faso and outplayed out played the star studded Ivory Coast very recently.  It is misleading to pretend that Igesund had to overhaul the team.  Despite the ridiculous celebrations we only won one game in this tournament.  What compounds the abomination is this tournament was held on the home soil.  Exactly how many games has Igesund won since becoming coach?  Mozambique, Angola and Kenya.  Makes for nice reading doesn’t it.
Those that have never even kicked a soccer ball in their life have already started calling for changes in BB technical team. The problem in Mzansi is that everyone is a coach, including those that have no clue what coaching entails.

G I is the right coach for our beautiful country and changing and chopping coaches won't help us. SAFA needs to give G I a long-term contract to build a team that will eventually beat those football powerhouses. GI has a plan to change fortunes for BB and he needs to be afforded a chance to implement it. Spain never won a major trophy for almost 40 years but they did not stop believing in their system and look at what they have been able to achieve, toppled Brazil as world no. 1. SAFA please keep GI when his system comes to fruition, the country will be a force to be reckoned with

Mr Editor it  is sad news that  our beloved Bafana Bafana have been knocked out of the  tournament. But to me the Super Eagles will win this Afcon. They are my dark horses ,nobody gave them a chance when the tournament starts. They are good side.

Bafana Bafana have changed a lot to what they used to be we can only applaud the coach and the players for    their new found fighting spirit. They left the tournament Afcon fighting you can see in the players the will and pride to wear the Bafana jersey again. Igesund has been brave in his decision making and I would say it paid off you don't just drop Shabba if you don't have good tactics and his planning has always been sport on. To the South Africans these are the start of good things to come let's rally behind this team. With this coach and change of few playing personnel we will make it to the world cup. There's a light at the end of the road. The coach must please consider Dean Furman for Captain.
Malibongwe Qwashu, Cape Town

I would like to congratulate Bafana Bafana for reaching the quarter-final of the Afcon. They showed the character. All we can't say the same with our own referee, the man was disgrace,he contacted himself like amatuer,Togo was lucky to pass his demons,
Simon Mogashoa, Ivory Park

Good that Safa has given GI the chance to continue I believe that he has learn a lot from this.

Congradulations to the coach and his team bafana as well as the supporters at least this time we showed the whole world what we have and can do see u at Brazil next year THABISO MOSHWELA MAKGOBISTAD

For those in search of excellence the ultimate goal is the best of the best.In the context of AFCON ,the best of the best will be the emerging winner from the finals. While I congratulate Bafana for their efforts, I at the same time feel they failed to make us proud. My assessment of the opening match and subsequent ones involving Bafana and  Cape Verde was that they were singing from the same page notwithstanding the fact that the former represented a country with a population of 51million  while the latter represented an Island with a population of  500 000.I fully agree that GI is capable of producing the best even out of average players, but I completely fail to understand what prevented him from producing the best out of our  two best players who were permanently relegated to the bench. ( Nthethe, Manyisa). The selection of seven players from one team and the decision to give all of them a run in the semifinal also remains a mystery. My strongest recommendation is that stalwarts like Jomo, Rhoo, Shakes, must be roped in to assist GI in the selection of players to beef-up the present squad.
Moss, North West.
