UL Coach Shuns Carnell Praise
UL coach, Burney Mampshika, has shirked praise from UJ coach, Bradley Carnell, as the teams prepare to lock horns in Johannesburg next week.
Carnell has heaped praise on Mampshika, saying that after watching UL this season, he feels they have been more tactically advanced than most of the teams UJ have played.
However, Mampshika has brushed aside the compliment from the former Bafana Bafana star.
“No, I don’t think we have been superior. I think as their coach he is praising us because we are their opponents, but if we were superior we would be scoring the goals. They are scoring the goals, so they are superior,” he explained.
Mampshika says Carnell has earned his respect as a coach and has proven he can do the job well with UJ in Varsity football this season.
The match will be the last for both teams in the round-robin stage of the tournament. UJ have already booked a spot in the semi-finals, but UL will be playing for honour.
The Limpopo students struggled to climb the Varsity Football standings this season and find themselves second from bottom with just two points.
Mampshika knows they have no chance of making the knockout stage, but he is keen to go out in a blaze of glory.
“We will prepare very hard for the match. It will be a mammoth challenge and the players know that. They will be prepared to die for a win next week,” he said.
UL will travel to Johannesburg with a fairly full squad to take on UJ next week.
