Come July there will be a host of new faces at SuperSport for the new season, one of whom will be Maritzburg United’s Michael Morton. Can the tough-tackler do the business?
We’ve conceded 27 goals in the PSL up to now, which isn’t too bad, but it isn’t great either. League wins are based on strong defences, and a player like Morton could help in that regard.
The 25-year-old isn’t going to score goals for us, at least not based on his previous goal tally, however he will fight for the cause in each and every game, putting up a strong wall between our defence and the opposition’s midfield/attack.
Having spent time at both Orlando Pirates and Wits, Morton has a substantial amount of PSL experience for a player of his age. He also spent a long time captaining Maritzburg under both Steve Komphela and former coach, Ernst Middendorp.
I think Morton will be a great addition to the squad in July, alongside Clayton Daniels and Thamsanqa Teyise. Do you think he’ll fit the bill at Matsatsantsa?
