Mamelodi Sundowns graced the PSL with smooth interchanging play and an abundance of positive runs beyond opposing defences last season, all of which have disappeared at the start of the new season, for some reason.
The fluid interchanging play has been substituted for lumping balls into the head and chest of Mame Niang, while both Ajax and Maritzburg kept a high line of defence to deal with the lanky striker.
We were restricted to taking shots from range, which hasn’t been as effective as Hlompho Kekana’s long distance goals of last season.
Against Maritzburg we took nine shots, six of which were off target and only from inside the box. Last night against Ajax, we managed only seven shots at goal, once again six off target and none from inside the box.
Do we need target practice? Or do we need to work smaller passes and get ourselves closer to the opposition goal area?
Whatever the answers, we need to change our approach in the next match or else we may just fall victim to Swallows and Pirates next.
