Flying through the early stages in the Champions league hadn’t been a problem for us until it all came to a grinding halt this weekend. So what does that mean for the mighty Amakhosi?
It could mean that the competition is just a little beyond our abilities. We are able to power through our domestic league but are unable to match the physicality and stoutness of teams higher up in Africa.
Where do we go from here? We firstly need to establish a dominant side here in South Africa and it should have happened over a be a lengthy period of time. Along with that we need to have strength in depth.
We tried doing so by purchasing Katlego Mphela but he still has to prove himself in the black and gold jersey. Maybe we could groom and mould players from the youth set-up and spend less. In that way we will also have players who understand the culture and mindset at Kaizer Chiefs.
Is it perhas that the CAF Champions league just came too soon for us?
