On Tuesday evening, fans at the Bernabeau made their thoughts on Angel Di Maria very clear. The Argentine midfielder received a standing ovation after he entered the pitch as a second-half substitute.
It’s become clear that his fine performances last season have turned him into a fan favourite. One could even argue that the signs of appreciation by the fans were a plea for Florentino Perez to do whatever he can to keep Angel at the club.
Di Maria was a match winner last season. Even in the game against Atletico he was a source of life and positive energy for the team to draw off. As soon as he came on, we looked more potent and menacing in attack, with James Rodriguez able to score his first goal for the club shortly after Di Maria’s introduction.
Last season, Di Maria had an 82.1% pass completion rate, with 1.9 shots taken per game and he also average 1.3 tackles per game. These statistics, along with his 4 goals and 17 assists provide evidence of just how fantastic he was.
And with the fans chanting his name from the stands, Di Maria will be entering his fourth season at the club with the highest level of confidence possible. Surely the club will realize that Di Maria is one of the finest players at our club (and in fact, in the world) and they won’t allow a transfer to happen.
