With all that has been said about the current striking problem in South African football, a lot of shine has been taken away from the men who stop strikers right on.
We could possibly head into a generation where goalkeepers are not an issue. In Spain, for example, there is Iker Casilas, Pepe Reina, David De Gea, Victor Valdez and possibly Diego Lopez, who is brilliant.
They are spoilt for choice, much like for Bafana Bafana in that department. If we don’t have Itumeleng Khune, we have Senzo Meyiwa, and if we don’t have him, we have the talented Ronwen Williams. Other names include Darren Keet and the young Ajax stopper Brandon Peterson.
These are very young and talented goalkeepers, so at least that is one problem solved for Bafana.
Are we heading into a golden generation of South African goalkeepers?
