Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise deserves to be included in Bafana Bafana as a reward for his impressive form.
The General has been in scintillating form for Sundowns this season, thanks to Pitso Mosimane’s belief in the player.
However, it doesn’t look like Modise is having the same luck with Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund, as he is consistently overlooked despite his form.
Modise’s name was not in the list of players announced by Igesund for games against Australia and New Zealand next month.
Igesund is talking about age and preparation for the future when he justifies his omission of Modise and the other players that are 30 years and older.
Thabo Nthethe will be turning 30 soon and he is in the team. Modise can still do the job for Bafana with the form and hunger he is showing.
Didier Drogba is 36 and is still an important member of his national team. He is one of the best strikers in Africa because he is judged on what he does on the field, not by his age.
In South Africa we do things differently and it is no wonder we fail time and again on the international stage.
