As gifted and talented as players can be, no single player makes a team! For three and half seasons we have had the pleasure of having the best midfield partnership in the premiership, which allowed us to win a double treble.
Unfortunately, since then, one of the members of the idiosyncratic partnerships left and our beloved Buccaneers side was just not quite the same thereafter.
With Andile Jali leaving, the midfield was left to Oupa Manyisa to manage all by his lonesome, though as gifted as is, he was never going to carry Orlando Pirates by himself.
Now we ask, where are the youngsters who are meant to take over for the Jalis and the Manyisas when they leave? Why should there be a case of panic every time good player leaves? What is the point of having an entire development structure when you are not going to tap into it?
I guess this question has some sense of irony to it, because Oupa is essentially a product of Pirates youth programme, and that proves my point. One can say Ace was the replacement of Teko Modise, but now who is the replacement for Ace?
