While many are dismissing Mamelodi Sundowns' win over Kaizer Chiefs as “just another win”, it should be pointed out that there is no better time to peak in the league than in its latter stages.
Even Pitso Mosimane downplayed the morale-boosting victory, saying the league title was for Chiefs to lose. But Amakhosi should be warned that the team they are competing with for the title is on a winning streak of six games and their confidence is higher than ever. With their current form and results, Sundowns is proving that it is not about how you start, it’s about how you finish.
And Chiefs will know, probably from Orlando Pirates’ struggles this season, that games in hand are not points already in the bag. Although they won’t openly admit it, Chiefs must be really worried. Sundowns, at this stage, look really hungry for league success, having last won it in the 2006/07 season.
Players like Teko Modise, Surprise Moriri, Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena and Anthony Laffor are in their form of their lives, while Chiefs have all of a sudden looked weaker upfront, especially when Knowledge Musona is not there.
Chiefs, beware, Ka Bo Yellow are coming!
