Let me try to keep this conversation as diplomatic and inoffensive as possible.
Winning the league is the easy part, but remaining at the top? Well, that's when it gets difficult.
I’m not trying to detract from the success of any team, but merely trying to point out that as seasons go by, teams make an effort to be better and stronger so they can be more competitive.
Thus, if a team wins the league this season and they are able to retain it the following season, that is much more impressive than just winning once and never again.
I believe Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said it best when he said, “It’s better to chase the league than to be the leading team on the table.”
Look at who the champions are now compared to last season. The real test is can they remain ‘Real Champions’?
