I don't think I'll be speaking too far out of line when I say that Brazil's World Cup opening ceremony was...unpleasant. It was just bizarre, to be honest, and it seemed a bit unorganised.
On top of that, several of the stadiums are still not entirely built and the event has already started! I mean, this is outrageous, really.
Airport workers strikes, protests, etc. I'm not blaming the people of Brazil. Obviously they have a good reason to be upset. But the authorities in charge of organising the World Cup in Brazil should be so embarrassed currently.
With all the trouble in Brazil, it has been brilliant to see a renewal of pride in South Africa after we hosted the tournament so magnificently in 2010. Looking back, Mazansi truly made the continent proud with how well we hosted an incredible World Cup. May that memory live on and stand in stark contrast to the calamity in Brazil.
