Our CAF Champions League defeat against AS Vita at the weekend means we drop into the Confederation Cup… But should we compete?
Taking part in the Confed Cup means that we’ve now got two more games added to our busy schedule next month, it also means that two more of our PSL games will be postponed.
If we do take part then there is a chance that we may end up losing out on the league title and the Nedbank Cup due to our sheer amount of games, and if we miss out on that then we could miss out on next year’s CCL.
We’ve boycotted a CAF competition in the past and got a lengthy ban for it, and if we do so again this year then we’ll get at least a three-year ban, something that would no doubt be detrimental to both ourselves and South African football.
Surely the best route is to not withdraw from the competition, but to use our fringe players for now, and hope for the best against what could be some very strong opposition.
