The transfer period has now come and gone, and despite many teams making multiple signings, there is one team that has been extremely quiet throughout the entire process.
Ironically, and to the surprise of many fans, this team is also known for having one of the smallest squads in the Premiership. This team is Moroka Swallows.
Throughout the transfer window many Swallows fans, myself included, predicted at least a few signings. Despite most of the players being content with the situation – small squads afford a great deal of playing time – it does seem a risky tactic considering the duration and the intensity of the competition. The Premiership is far from a doddle and every team expects to pick up injuries along the way. With a squad of the Birds’ size, a few injuries could ruin their season and undo much of the good work the team has done so far (6th with 14 points).
As a Swallows supporter, it seems to me they have missed their opportunity to acquire a few players and bolster their squad in case the team is plagued by injuries in the second half of the season?
Do you think that the Swallows management missed a golden opportunity to sign some players during the transfer period? Who would you have tried to get on board if you had been in the Swallow’s management?
