Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Iker Casillas will be starting in goal against Atletico Madrid and this is a good omen for our hopes of winning the Supercup.
Casillas will be preferred to Keylor Navas, who will compete with the Spaniard for the starting role in between the posts.
The good news is that Casillas has only lost once in his entire career against our City rivals and that was way back in 1999/2000, where he came on and we were 3-1 down after Albano Bizzarri was sent off. In fact, he has never lost a game that he’s started against them.
Over 15 years and 22 encounters with Atletico, Casillas boasts a record of 16 wins and six draws. So, if history is anything to go by, tomorrow’s game will not end in defeat.
Casillas’ leadership will be vital as well and we can be sure that he will be able to provide inspiration to the younger players around him.
