A transfer window should be a bonus for football clubs everywhere, a luxury as it were. It should be a period whereby clubs could explore their squads and make adjustments if more quality needs to be added to the current crop of players.
However, this should not become a clubs only policy.
We have to remember that football is not only a business, it is in fact a sport. A football club should produce talent and push those players to the first team to call it their own players.
Ajax Cape Town is indeed the best in doing so. In the Ajax versus Mamelodi Sundowns game, the Urban Warriors fielded up to nine academy players, with the rest being additions made elsewhere.
They then beat a team which was largely made up of big money signings, inviting one to ask the question, will money ultimately kill all purposes of the beautiful game?
