Mpho Makola’s revival deserves credit, and I have to admit it, some people did not see him in their wildest dreams blossoming into this top quality player he is today.
He has all the tools to be the lynchpin of this Pirates team for years to come, not to mention the mental strength.
Right now, it is even hard to imagine him not starting week in and out. And it just goes to show that sometimes a player can develop into a better player.
People are quick to say that to improve a squad you have to buy: but sometimes the squad can improve internally with the development of players. I think this is a point that is often forgotten in modern football today.
Makola is a classy player, highly skilled with a good work ethic, excellent determination and a powerful engine. He is perfect for VV’s system, which is predicated on intelligent movement. But what is great with the current crop of Pirates midfielders is their ability to interpret and interchange in their system. They can rotate and play or pop up in different positions and make it harder for a defense to mark them or chase anyone individually.
