We paid €40 million to Atletico Madrid for the services of Diego Costa, and considering the inflated transfer market as well as Costa’s obvious quality, that isn’t really that much money. But Jose Mourinho has gone so far to say that his transfer was a “bargain”.
I think Mourinho needs to keep his mouth shut, for now. Costa has been impressive in preseason and it would seem that our woes with regards to the centre-forward position are now over.
But, nothing has been won yet. We may win a few trophies this season, and, as a fan of this fine club, I expect us to. Although, we haven’t actually done it yet. I have little doubt that Diego Costa will be a key part of our title hopes when the time comes, but on the same note, I will reserve judgement until I see how he adapts to the English game.
A few goals against some relatively unknown teams in friendlies is not enough to call Costa a bargain. He needs to prove his worth with a trophy or two.
