It’s something every coach has done; no coach will ever claim that they have not protested against a referee.
Sometimes it gets out of hand though and that is when coaches get fines and touchline bans.
Referees have the tough task of focusing all of their attention on speedy players and have to officiate with the naked eye. We on the outside have the privilege of action replays. Coaches on the touchlines don’t - they judge on what they see in that moment.
Post match comments are where it all goes down. Blasting the referee for that one mistake the ref made and before you know it the authorities slaps the coaches with fines.
The funny thing is one week the coaches are screaming “Referee, Referee!!!!!” or the more commonly yelled “Mr. Ref, what was that!?”, but the next week it’s all forgotten.
So then is it really worth the fines and the ugliness it creates?
