For months, it has been speculated that Stuart Baxter will leave our club. This whole story is becoming a little bit annoying and I’m pretty sure that Baxter will be staying at Naturena this season, but we cannot rule out the possibility of his departure just yet.
So, if Stuart Baxter does take on the role of technical director at SAFA, who should replace him as head coach of our club? Who, given the available options, can take over the role and continue in the same vein as the Scot has done, and furthermore, who can improve the team to bring silverware to the club?
Rumour has it that Steve Komphela is the favourite to take the role if Baxter leaves. Now, don’t get me wrong, I think Komphela is a good coach and that he’s done good work with Maritzburg United- especially considering how well he’s worked with youngsters. However, I don’t think he has a particularly impressive CV and a move for him would be unambitious and a step backwards for the club.
Rather, I think we should take a serious look at the former coach of Bafana Bafana, Gordon Igesund. Igesund knows the PSL back-to-front.
His list of honours within South African football is practically unparalleled and beyond that, he knows exactly how to get the best out of his players and build a team from the ground up… Even if the team is financially struggling, which apparently we are.
With this said, who do you, then fans, think should replace Stuart Baxter if he leaves Kaizer Chiefs?
