It’s tight at the top! We’re now level on points with Mamelodi Sundowns going into the last few games of the season. How many points do we need to win it?
The defeat to Sundowns this weekend was a blow, but not a killer one. The league is still in our own hands and, if we win all our remaining games, we’ll defend our title.
But how many points do you think that we’ll need? We’ve got six more games to play. These are against Mpumalanga Black Aces, Polokwane City, Free State Stars, Wits, University of Pretoria and AmaZulu. How many points should we expect from those games?
If we can get 14 points from the final 18 then we’ll be able to pip Downs to the title. That means getting three wins and two draws from our last six games, giving us a final tally of 66 points - significantly more than the average 58 that is usually takes to win the PSL.
I do think that we’ll drop more points between now and the end of the season, although it is likely that Sundowns will too. Let's just hope that we drop them in draws rather than defeats.
