“We must believe, dream that we can do it."
These were the words of our striker, Fernando Llorente, when discussing our chances of winning the UEFA Champions League in this next season. And, given the incredible run that we saw with Atletico Madrid in last season’s Champions League, I am with the Spaniard on this one.
If we can dominate football like we did in Italy, what’s saying we can’t do so in our European games in this season to come?
I believe our biggest weakness in Europe under Antonio Conte was our defence. The three- man defence, that we were tactically accustomed to, proved our downfall even if Conte did employ four men in defence. This tactical failing should now no longer exist.
With Massimiliano Allegri as coach, I believe a move to a more conventional 4-3-3 is on the cards, and considering the great quality of our squad, as well as big European powers unfamiliarity with playing against our great team.
Essentially, we have the element of surprise on our side, as well as the quality to win the Champions League this season and, if we believe like Llorente does, it wouldn’t be outside of the realm of possibility, even probability, that we will be calling ourselves Kings of Europe next season.
