Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena has been through a lot in his career, which is why it feels good to see him back and doing what he does best.
The skilful player broke through the ranks at Orlando Pirates during the exciting times of Kosta Papic, playing alongside the likes of Gift Leremi, Steve Lekoelea and Lelo Mbele. He became a hit with the Bucs fans. But, after being tired of sitting on the bench for a long time, he made the move to Sundowns and, to be honest, we are yet to see his best. Cheeseboy has been plagued by injuries and, when he returns, he has had to wait for his chance to play.
How nice it was, then, to see him showing that he still has a lot to offer, in the last two weeks. Injuries are a very frustrating part of football, but Cheeseboy has put his frustrations behind him and is enjoying his game once more. He has scored in the club’s last three games, against Golden Arrows in the Nedbank Cup, and against Platinum Stars and University of Pretoria in the league. Those were beautiful strikes also!
That will surely do his confidence the world of good. The timing of his comeback could not have been better, as the club is chasing the league title. Nothing can replace experience and a player like Cheeseboy will always offer something to the team, especially with his individual brilliance. His ability to take on defenders and his pace are his greatest assets – ask Cyril Nzama – and we will need to see more of that in the remaining games.
Did you just say “Cheeeeese!”
