In the Supercup match against Atletico last night, James replaced Cristiano Ronaldo after half time on the pitch. He took up Ronaldo’s left-wing role and was impressive.
The game looked destined to remain scoreless thanks to some incredible defensive unity displayed by our rivals (give credit where credit is due). But then our Columbian star managed to get onto the end of a loose ball in the box to mark a memorable home debut with his first goal for the club.
This gives me belief that James will be worth the money we spent on him and that someday soon he may even be able to fill Cristiano’s boots on a more permanent basis.
His ability to deal with the high-pressure atmosphere at the Bernabeau and produce the final product that he did is evidence that his fine performances at this summer’s World Cup were no fluke. He is a fine talent and I’m looking forward to see what he will be able to do when he manages to settle in at the club.
